Short Path Distillation Kit For Sale
What is the principle of short path distillation equipment?
Molecular distillation is a special liquid-liquid separation technology. It is different from traditional distillation which relies on the separation principle of boiling point difference, but relies on the difference in the mean free path of molecular motion of different substances to achieve separation.
When the liquid mixture flows along the heating plate and is heated, the light and heavy molecules will escape from the liquid surface and enter the gas phase. Since the free paths of the light and heavy molecules are different, the molecules of different substances move different distances after escaping from the liquid surface. If a condensing plate can be installed properly, the light molecules will reach the condensing plate and be condensed and discharged, while the heavy molecules will not reach the condensing plate and be discharged along the mixed liquid. In this way, the purpose of material separation is achieved.
Short path setting component:
Chillers: The term "chiller" can be misleading when talking about short paths. Vapors can recondense at temperatures at least 20 degrees lower than they boiled. When performing short path distillation, the temperature range of the heating mantle is approximately 100°C to 250°C (212°F to 482°F). This means the short range capacitor will be set between 40°C and 60°C. We prefer 50C (122F) as a starting point. This means we don't necessarily need a "cooler". We just need a device that can maintain the desired 50C temperature during the process.
Vacuum pump: When performing the distillation process, it is essential to have a chemically resistant vacuum pump that can reach extremely high depths. The pump should be able to reach at least 50 microns, but the deeper the better. The preferred type of pump for distillation is a rotary vane (oil) pump. Rotary vane pumps provide the best vacuum depth compared to other types of pumps. Short path distillation can cause a lot of chemical wear and tear on your vacuum pump. Therefore, it is recommended to change the oil before each distillation. This will give you the best depth and keep the vacuum pump at peak performance.
Cold Trap: The cold trap plays an important role in capturing any vapors that pass through the condenser. This protects and extends the life of the vacuum system.
Short circuit: The short circuit itself consists of the 4 main glass assemblies and the heating mantle. These components are: boiling flask, short pass head, receiving cow and receiving flask. A heating mantle is similar to a heat bath on a rotary evaporator. Here's how you would heat a mixture inside a boiling flask. The distillation head is the key to distillation. Inside the head is a small indentation called a "vigreaux". These create contact points where the vapors collide as they travel upward into the head. The head also contains the condenser, where the condenser will draw out the steam to condense it back into that beautiful golden color we all hope to see.
Applications of short path distillation:
Pharmaceutical Industry:
Raw materials, natural and synthetic vitamins, stabilizers
Fine Chemicals:
Remove silicone oil, resin, monomer in polymer, remove isocyanate in prepolymer, remove solvent and oligomer in various resins
Flavors and Fragrances:
Purification of omega-3 fatty acids by distillation of monoglycerides from diesters and triesters
Petrochemical:
Evaporation and fractionation of oil components and wax components in petroleum, and then fractionation of wax components to obtain hard wax and super hard wax, production of lubricating oil
Plastic industry:
Polyurethane prepolymers, epoxy resins, acrylates, polyols, plasticizers
Frequently Asked Questions About Short Path Distillation Units:
Why has my distillate darkened?
Distillates oxidize upon exposure to the atmosphere and light. Store distillates in a cool, dark place to reduce exposure and reduce the chance of oxidation.
When pouring the ethanol into the boiling flask, can I leave the ethanol in the mixture to use as a transfer medium?
Yes, but should be avoided. You'll end up with a lot of alcohol in the cold trap, which can easily vacuum evaporate. This can get trapped in your pump and ruin it very quickly. This also caused vigorous foaming and foaming in the flask.
Which pipeline should I use?
We recommend rubber for vacuum tubes and silicone for cooler tubes.
