Extraction | Introduction to Distillation Equipment - Short Path Distillation
Short-path distillation application
Short-path distillation is a compact purification method that is ideal for laboratory applications that require minimal instrument footprint. This low pressure technique uses multiple flasks and a relatively short extraction feed to separate the condensing medium over a few centimeters. Conventional distillation methods typically require larger equipment to achieve the level of purity required for application specific requirements. At the same time, short-path distillation equipment can achieve up to 99% distillate purity levels using multiple components in a small workspace.
Distillation process
The material is added from the top of the evaporator, and is continuously and evenly distributed on the heating surface through the liquid distributor on the rotor, and then the wiper scrapes the liquid into a very thin, turbulent liquid film and spirals. Push down. The light component that escapes from the heating surface is condensed into a liquid on a built-in condenser after a short route and almost without collision, and flows down the condenser tube through a discharge pipe at the bottom of the evaporator. The residual liquid, that is, the heavy component, is collected in a circular passage under the heating zone, and then flows out through the discharge pipe on the side.

Working characteristics and principles
1. The operating temperature is much lower than the boiling point of the material to treat heat sensitive materials, bio-acid fat, high-boiling substances, and materials that are difficult to distill have great advantages.
2. The heating time is extremely short. Ordinary distillation requires a process of several hours of heat, which can be completed in a few tens of seconds on short-distance distillation, low-carbon and environmentally friendly, and is conducive to maintaining material activity.
3. It belongs to the physical separation process to keep the material's natural state free from pollution. Widely used in deodorization, decolorization and purification of high value-added materials.
Note on the use of short-path distillation:
1. Check that the inlet and outlet valves of the cooling water of each component are open.
2. Check if the ethanol in the cryostat is sufficient.
3. Note whether the liquid nitrogen in the liquid nitrogen tank is sufficient.
4. Check if the connection between the cold well and the equipment is closed.
